This course will train instructor candidates to teach basic-level American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED courses.

 

To participate in this instructor course, you must be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course and submit proof a current basic-level American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED (or higher level) certification or equivalent (restrictions apply). This is a blended learning course consisting of online content, a skills session and classroom segments. Online material must be completed prior to the first day of class.

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach the basic-level courses and modules in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program.

To participate in this instructor course you must:

  • Be at least 17 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course
  • Show proof of a current basic-level certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid
  • Obtain all required instructor and participant course materials before starting the course
  • Successfully complete the online session of the Lifeguarding Instructor course prior to the precourse session (a voucher will be emailed after successful registration)
  • Successfully complete the prerequisite skill assessment scenario to continue in the course

This is a blended learning course consisting of online content, a skills session and classroom/water segments. Online material must be completed prior to the first day of class.

This course is for currently certified (or expired less than one year) American Red Cross lifeguard instructors and lifeguard instructor trainers only. 

The purpose of the Lifeguarding Instructor/Instructor Trainer Recertification course is to give instructors and instructor trainers the opportunity to review the course knowledge and skills within a formal course setting in order to maintain their American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor or Instructor Trainer certification.

Successfully completing this course is the only method for maintaining certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguarding instructor or instructor trainer.

Lifeguard Instructors and Instructor Trainers are required to take this review class every two years in order to maintain their LGI/LGIT certification.  You are required to pre-register for this course and complete your online update before you take the in-person review class.

A participant level certification is not required to maintain your LGI/IT certification, however, there is an optional test out session that can immediately follow the review course.  Anyone wishing to do the optional test out session should plan on staying a few hours past the course end time and paying an additional $85 fee.

  • Limited Edition LGI/IT recertification course option available for LGIs who have expired within one year
Water Safety Instructor

This course trains American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor candidates to teach courses and presentations in the Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants progress.

To enroll, instructor candidates must be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course and successfully complete the precourse session which includes demonstration of swimming skill at Learn-to-Swim Level 4. This is a blended learning course consisting of online content, a skills session and classroom/water segments. Online material must be completed prior to the first day of class.
