Course Description

This course will train instructor candidates to teach basic-level American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Lifeguarding Blended Learning, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Bloodborne Pathogens Training.

 

To participate in this instructor course, you must be at least 17 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course and submit proof a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED For the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certificate. This is a blended learning course consisting of online content, a skills session and classroom/water segments. Online material must be completed prior to the first day of class.

About This Course

This three day course requires pre-registration and there is online work that must be completed prior to the first day. Proof of a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED For the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification is required at the time of registration. Registration closes April 19, 2023

Course schedule (must attend all three days):

  • 9:00-6:00 Monday April 24, 2023
  • 9:00-6:00 Tuesday April 25, 2023
  • 9:00-6:00 Thursday April 27, 2023

This course is not designed to teach you lifeguarding skills. You are expected to come to class with a strong understanding of the lifeguard program and be able to perform the lifeguarding skills to the standard. You can find information on the r.17 lifeguarding program here.

 

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A LIFEGUARDING INSTRUCTOR:

  • Must have a current ARC lifeguard certification
  • Must be at least 17 years old by the last day of class
  • Successfully complete the Online Session
  • Successfully complete the Precourse Skills Test Session
  • Attend and actively participate in all course sessions
  • Successfully complete class activities, including four practice-teaching assignments
  • Score a minimum of 80% (20 correct answers out of 25 questions) on the instructor course final
    written exam
